How To Get Started In Your Own Business

If you have been on the Internet for any length of time, you probably have come across all kinds of make-money-fast schemes. You know, the kind of “business opportunity” or “biz opp” which promises you oodles of money at the push of a button.

MLM Schemes: Avoid Like The Plague

Some of these scams come in the shape of MLM schemes. The idea is actually one variety of the well-known pyramid scam, also applied in chain letters: Those new to the system pay an entrance fee to those further up in the hierarchy — and in theory, if each new member recruits several other members, then (and only then) will the established members actually make money. In real life, it won’t work.

My advice is: avoid everything resembling an MLM or similar scheme like the plague! Instead, focus on those legitimate business opportunities that are actually out there. As far as I am concerned, these come in two forms: offline and online.

Offline and Online Business: Bricks and Burgers vs. Your Own Computer

An offline business is also known as a “brick and mortar” business — meaning you have to rent a physical space to conduct that business. Examples: fast-food joints, shoe shops and so on. The obvious problem with these is you have high initial costs before you even get started making sales.

Then there is the online variety. An online business opportunity takes advantage of the enormous power of the Internet. Using the Web, you can make sales while sitting at the kitchen table in your underwear!

The only real startup cost is a computer and an Internet connection — which you have already if you’re reading this.

You don’t even need your own product, since you can get commissions by promoting products and services provided by others. This is called being an “affiliate”, and there are those who make millions selling other people’s stuff as affiliates.

How To Get Started In an Online Business

The problem is the competition. Since this market is so lucrative, there are thousands of people competing for a share of the pie. To have any chance of success, you got to know what you’re doing.

There are tons of ebooks and membership sites that offer information on how to make it in an online business — I have personally bought dozens of those. The problem is some of them are just plain junk! They are written by some loser trying to pose as an expert or a “guru”, and give you useless information.

If you want some solid information on how to get started, the best bet in my opinion is to get a course called Instant Payday Formula by Kim Roach.

This online course is an ebook plus a whole set of videos. In the videos you get detailed hands-on instructions on how to do the action steps discussed in the ebook.

Honestly, this is the best course I have seen on the subject of getting started online — although I’m not saying it is perfect. For instance, Kim promises to provide detailed instructions on some stuff which (at the time I write this) simply isn’t there yet. Still, this course is great value.

And what do you actually get in this online course? Well, Kim focuses on the really important stuff, like:

  • How to pick the right market… full of rabid buyers
  • How to find the best keywords — used by those buyers
  • How to build a responsive mailing list
  • AND smart ways to get free traffic!

She doesn’t waste time telling you basic stuff like how to build a web site — such information is available for free all over the place. No, what you get is plenty of cutting-edge tactics — much of it was actually new to me.
